Ashleigh Jane Hair and Makeup

It seems like a decade ago now, but back in July last year I had the pleasure of entering, and winning Canterbury Bride of the Year. I didn’t know it yet, but come 8am when I knocked on Ashleigh’s door for hair and makeup I was about to meet one of the most genuine, hard working chicks in the business - I literally could have sat in her makeup chair all day - not that I needed to, come midnight my face paint hadn’t budged one bit!

Ashleigh, Ashleigh Jane, Ash  - what do you prefer?

Business wise it’s  Ashleigh Jane, but once you know me it’s really Ashleigh or Ash!

How did Ashleigh Jane Hair and Makeup come about?

I have always loved beauty, I became a hairdresser at a young age and loved it and while I was doing that I started doing makeup on the side. After six years of hairdressing I started reacting to hair chemicals which made me rethink what I really wanted to do. I had worked part time beforehand for another wedding vendor and I loved it, so I went out on my own while going back to beauty therapy school full time which has now got me to where I am today.

You don’t just do bridal hair and makeup, tell us a little about your business?

I love learning, so I went back to beauty therapy school to get a better understand of skin, how to improve areas and help give better advice on how clients should be taking care of their skin leading up to the big day.  I also do my bridal party waxing, nails and tan leading into the week of their wedding.

What would your number one piece of advice be for brides and their wedding day look?

Number one advice, take good care of yourself, treat yourself when needed and enjoy planning, don’t make it into a job!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

When I find spare time, I love spending it with my husband, friends and family and of course my dog.

If you could pick an all time favourite makeup look, what would it be?

I love Khloe Kardashian’s makeup style because she always looks so fresh and dewy.

What school did you go to?

I went to St Margarets college and boarded there.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

I am a secret nerd so I love doing research! My two favourite idols are Melissa Sassine for makeup and Natalie Anne for hair. Their knowledge and creativity is incredible.

What are some of your favourite hair + makeup products for brides in your kit?

I have a few makeup products – Tarte shape tape is amazing,  and I love The Porefessional from Benefit. For hair I would say ‘Dust it’ which is dry shampoo and Osis Elastic hairspray. I do have loads more but my list would go on and on!

What beauty and makeup products are always in your handbag?

I am the worst person to ask this question to because I personally actually don’t wear much makeup at all! A nice lip gloss and of course my brow brush.

What looks you see trending this season?

With a lot of my bridal trials this season so far I am seeing autumn tones, and lips are being a touch more bolder colouring which is great.

What’s your skincare routine?

These days I am now really focusing on my skin routine to prevent a few things like pigmentation.

Morning will go a bit like this; Cream cleanse | Exfoliate softly | Lifting eye cream | Gly C serum | Pigmentation serum | Lifting serum | Fruit enzyem serum | Vitamin A day cream

Night I would cream cleanse and then apply eye cream again and then just use my night oil.

Hair, makeup, skin and beauty - Ashleigh does it all and I'm so thrilled to have her on board. Welcome you total girl boss, and here's to the next season!

Until next,

With love, Lucy_4 Grey.png
