To cake, or not to cake - and everything in between

Cake by Full Time Tart, Captured by Sophie Isabella

Hello Friends,

I tell you what, the planning conversations are rolling in as we gain a sense of ‘normality’ again and it’s so refreshing to hear so many of you scrapping the idea of what a wedding should look like and doing your very best to create the day of your dreams.

The topic of cake and cutting always comes up as a part of my consults and (full transparency) it’s always 50/50 on your views so I thought it timely to chat about what your options are and how you can pull them off.

Firstly, you have your cake and cut it too. That’s pretty self-explanatory.

Secondly, you could have a smaller cake to cut in front of your guests and then choose to have a slab cake out the back for serving to your guests. This can save a few dollars and is a great option if you’re sitting on the fence.

Lastly, you could opt to have a dessert bar and create a spectacle with an array of cakes, or cut pieces of cake and mix them with a selection of your favourite treats and sweets. Dessert bars are fully rated by us here at CW - They provide something for guests to nibble on throughout the night, and if you feel like popping some paper bags on the table this can be a great replacement for traditional favours as guests can take a few bits and pieces home for later.

If cake in its traditional sense isn’t for you, you could look at alternative options. Maybe a stack of cheese wheels is more your style and would lend to an epic supper bar. Cookies, lamingtons or donuts also stack well into a cake-resembling number so think about what you love the most and roll with your decision. As always, it’s your day and we love nothing more than executing it your way.

When choosing to cut your cake, we most frequently see it unfold just after the newlyweds’ speech and before the first dance. Our top tip? Consider doing it after your wedding party entrance, or introduction as newlyweds during your reception. It will help you to make the most of your photographer/videographer time and will help keep the events flowing nicely.

That’s a short and sweet low down on how you can incorporate cake into your day, I hope that helps! If you’re looking for more inspiration, head on over to the CW Pinterest and get swooning. We’ve got something pinned for every style!

Until Next,

Lucy xxx
