Runaway Lovers

Videography captured by Jono Smit

I tell you what, I sure have the best luck (not) being at the mercy of the weather gods for styled shoots! Torrential rain, hail and a little snow left me nearly pulling the pin on this shoot, but we packed the cars and soldiered on towards the magnificent Washpen Falls, low and behold the second we hit the road past West Melton the skies cleared, allowing us to capture all of the goodness you are about to see!

A walk definitely not for the faint-hearted, I fell in love with the landscape of Washpen falls from the get-go. Nestled in between cliffs stretching up to the sky, with beautiful lagoons, stagnant lakes full of the most incredible green hues and rushing water downstream, magical caves and of course the Canterbury famous waterfall, Washpen falls sure is a sight worth experiencing.

Putting Canterbury on the map as a destination for couples shoots, weddings and elopements is something I hold so true to my heart, and I am could not be more proud to share the creative edge of Christchurch Weddings and its amazing vendor community with the rest of the world.

We were fortunate enough to have two amazing photographers capturing this shoot, hover over your favourite images to find out who took which one.

"Here lies the tale of two runaway lovers eloping in the beautiful region of Canterbury, New Zealand. Driving by Kombi with few belongings and trekking through New Zealand's rugged terrain to uncover the spellbinding magic of a hidden waterfall, these two lovers declared their most pure love for each other, with only each other".
