Edgy Substation Styled Shoot by Rebecca Claridge Photography

With so many talented vendors involved from Christchurch Weddings Directory, it meant a local crew could get together and stuck into what we all do best, have a good catch up and create something a little different and a whole lot of fun!

Bursting with history, its city location and industrial charm, Milton Street Substation was the perfect venue for this shoot. The venue itself has distinct areas which can be purposed for different functions should you choose to. With the band, dance floor and lounging space in the double-height foyer, an inside ceremony option in the main room, and then upstairs in the sun-drenched first floor acting as the reception space, it was an opportunity to showcase the functionality of these beautiful areas inside four towering brick walls.

Achieving something moody, a bit edgy but also relatable was key to this creative adventure – something that would inspire our couples but also something they hadn’t seen before. Using a warm earthy colour palette, seasonal florals along with dried elements brought in a textured look, while dark tones like the black chiffon runners along the tables made the florals pop. Coloured candles are also really trending at the moment and they can really complete the overall styling.

One of the biggest problems couples tend to have is having that backup plan for rain should they be having an outdoor ceremony. The beautiful brick and moody nature of the downstairs area at Milton Street Substation make for a perfectly cosy, intimate location to say yes to forever together and showcases just how stunning an indoor ceremony can be. Lit up with vintage festoon lighting, lots of candles down the aisle and bold florals, the downstairs area was transformed into the space of dreams.
