Hen Party Diaries | Stuck on Ideas? Here's a few that aren't the usual
Don’t sigh just yet, you strong, independent bride squad!
Yes, most hens aren’t complete without a pretend fireman busting his way into the room to put out the fire you and your friends are exerting - but for the modest bride, or someone who’s just into having a good time with her friends, here’s a few seeds to plant, that, let’s face it - don’t involve a substandard stripper rubbing his nuts all up in your girls grill.
Let’s kick off with the CW favs first
Take a flower crown making class
Nearly every floristry vendor on the CW directory is open and well accustomed to catering for larger groups and you will be sure to have a blast in this virtually foolproof class.
Create your own bespoke lippy with The Lip Lounge
Take in your favourite lippy to replicate, or create your own total custom colour with your Bride and her tribe, at The Lip Lounge can cater to large groups in their central city store, or they can come to you. Watch the process unfold before your eyes and prepare to be amazed.
Satisfy your sweet tooth with cookie and/or cake decorating
For the bride with a sweet tooth, a little decorating class could be the perfect touch to her special day. Enquire with any CW favoured cake maker to see what they can offer.
Make your own heavenly smelling candles
The Lyttelton Lights team have the most gorgeous space ready and waiting for your group to come in and create a soy wax masterpiece, and you should totally take advantage of it!
Paint and Sip... Literally!
Located in Ilam, Amanda and the team at Paint and Sip will have you feeling like an artist in no time! Perfect for bridal groups, they have a range of art themes to select from, or you can let your imagination run wild with abstract designs of the bride, or even a topless model. Paint the night away over a few nibbles, and sip away on the great wine on offer.
Have a true girls night in with Little Slumbers
Adult slumber parties have taken Christchurch by storm and Jen from Little Slumbers loves to cater for bride tribes. Whether you want to set up inside, or make the most of her brand spanking new bell tent, there’s an option to suit any sized crowd. So, grab your gals and enjoy a night of relaxation over platters and a few too many vinos.
Dine in style with Eaton Drink Co.
Bring in the pros to your venue to configure and create a bespoke restaurant quality dining experience for your girl and her gang with Eaton Drink Co. With an ethos of simple food, done well, you're truly in safe hands!
Stretch those legs with a Salsa class
Taking our wedding dance lessons with Carrie from Latin Addiction was one of the best experiences ever, and you can enjoy a slice of that too with a hen’s booking! Carrie and the team can even come to you, just simply turn up and be ready for a great time.
Become models for the afternoon with a Bride Tribe photoshoot
You’re probably going to get dressed up at some point during the day, so why don’t you enlist the help of one of the amazing CW photographers and capture the occasion. Pack some bubbles and snacks, get the music cranking and head to an amazing space around the region to have some fun. You could even be a little extra and have Annabel from Gypset set up one of her gorgeous tents and style it to perfection. The bride will absolutely love a keepsake from the day that will bring back memories for years to come.
Take a walk on the wild side with a hike and picnic
Either make a little picnic yourself, or pick a spot with views to die for and enlist the help of Bespoke Platters to create your own slice of grazing perfection. Perfect for brunch, or heading up the hills to watch the sunset, this can be a really inexpensive way to give your bride to be a gorgeous send off she will remember forever.
And top it off with a few more
Makeup workshops with Kasia Stanicich
Kasia really is just a bundle of fun and has taken the makeup industry by storm, recently launched group makeup workshops where you are sure to learn a thing or two! In her 'Hands on' option, Kasia demonstrates a look on a model she brings along, and you complete the transformation on yourself as she takes you through the process. If that sounds a bit daunting, you can 'Watch and Learn' Kasia demonstrate a look on a model, and ask all the questions you like along the way. You can even bolt on a platter and a glass of vino for the full experience. Mention 'CHRISTCHURCH WEDDINGS' in your enquiry and you will receive $100 off the 'Hands on', or $50 off the 'Watch and Learn'.
Margarita making masterclass with Mexico
These classes are suitable for groups of up to 20 people (although soon be increased), and last around an hour. Mexico will give a cheat-sheet style discussion of tequila, including how it's made, how it's different from other spirits, and the different kinds you can get. They then talk about the history of the margarita cocktail, before jumping into the exciting part - making your own! Every guest makes two margaritas, an original style and one of Mexico’s in-house flavoured recipes, while they guide you through some tricks of the trade to demystify mixing drinks bartender style.
Akaroa night paddle boarding with NightSUP
Get your gals together for a weekend in Akaroa and paddleboard under the stars as you get to witness the sealife come alive beneath. It is dependant on weather conditions, but these balmy summer nights sure make it sound extra appealing, and for those of you first timers, a lesson is always provided at the beginning.
Coming soon to Christchurch, these super groovers have taken the idea of ‘dancercise’ to the next level. Remember the days where you’d sit at home in the weekend playing music videos over and over in an attempt to learn the moves to your favourite hits? Shut up and dance has taken that exact concept and turned it into one hell of a 45 minute sweat session that is guaranteed to provide a tonne of laughs and teach you some great new moves in one of the most amazing atmospheres I’ve ever experienced.
Take a road trip to remember with a North Canterbury wine tour
Because, wine not? North Canterbury is literally at our doorstep and has some exquisite drops on offer. The likes of North Canterbury Wine tours can hook you up with a tour, or you could tiki tour out yourselves to one of the many restaurants for an afternoon in the sun. My pick? You have to venture out to Black Estate wines.
Bring out those green fingers and create a Terrarium jungle
I took a class earlier in the year thanks to Bunch Floral and Lululemon and couldn’t believe how easy it was. The hardest part has since been keeping the little suckers alive! You could easily get all the items together and take the class yourself, click HERE for a step by step article to give you an idea.
Relax and unwind with a pottery class
If someone took me to do a pottery class I think I’d get on my knees and kiss there feet! That’s a lie… because feet, but a group pottery class is an awesome, relaxing way to kick off a hens. There’s a few studios around town so do a little research and find the best one for you.
Learn some new skills over a cooking class
For the true foodie, why don’t you treat your bride to be with an experience she’ll never forget - and one that feeds her too! Click HERE for a great link to a number of cooking schools around Canterbury that has something to cater for nearly every taste.
Japanese to your door with Shin’s Teppanyaki
